Set aside about ten minutes each month to spot issues and choose a priority. This is a quick check, not a substitute for a full review. If something needs investigating, note it and give it the time it needs.
1. Check your business details
Look up your business and check the details customers see: phone number, website link, opening hours and location or service area. Review recent customer feedback and respond where appropriate.
Keep a short list of corrections. Avoid including private customer information in public replies.
2. Look at search trends
If you have Google Search Console, compare recent clicks and impressions with a similar previous period. Look at the searches and pages most relevant to your services.
Google’s Performance report guide explains these measures. Average position is a summary, not a fixed rank everyone sees. A manual search, even in a private window, is not a reliable replacement for trend reporting.
If you do not have access, ask whoever manages your website to help you get it. A sudden change is a reason to investigate, not proof of a particular cause.
3. Compare enquiries
Count genuine calls, form enquiries and bookings. Compare with the previous period and, where available, the same time last year. Exclude spam and avoid counting the same person repeatedly.
If enquiries appear to have stopped, check that the site loads and test the enquiry form. Confirm that messages reach the person responsible for responding.
4. Review spend and lead quality
If you run ads, compare spend, recorded enquiries and qualified leads. Check what your conversion metric actually measures before treating it as lead volume.
- Has spend changed?
- Are enquiries relevant to the service and area you cover?
- Are they becoming customers?
- Did tracking or the campaign change during the period?
If you are not running ads, use these minutes to check that recent enquiries have been followed up.
5. Pick one next action
Choose something specific, assign an owner and set a date. For example:
- Correct outdated opening hours.
- Clarify a service-page headline.
- Fix a broken form or notification.
- Add a relevant work example.
- Invite recent customers to leave a review.
Keep a short record
Save the date, key numbers, anything unusual and your next action in one place. That gives next month’s check some context and helps you follow through.
